Who uses the classic communication plan before a communication effort? Communicators. Project manager. Otherwise? In a communicative organization where everyone communicates, it should be super easy for everyone to make a difference. Head-heart-feet is my favorite tool.

So far, I have not met a manager or employee who has told me that they use the communication plan as a tool when they need to communicate on an important issue. Or the message model. It may not be necessary either. But regardless of who is to communicate something to someone, big or small, the message needs to land and create value with the other person for something to happen. It requires you to think for a short while.
This is where head-heart-feet is so useful. In everyday life. As symbols of the classic goals in communication. I'm going to talk to someone's head. What do I want the person to think about what I say? I also speak to the person's heart. What do I want the person to feel? What atmosphere do I need to create? I also speak to the person's feet. What do I want this person to do after my communication? What will happen?
If I think about it for a short while, I have pretty soon figured out how to set up my communication. I have probably greatly increased my chances of getting the message across. Head-heart-feet. All three are needed.
So instead of remembering how to set goals for communication - remember head-heart-feet. Simple and successful!
I train managers and key personnel in communicative leadership with particular emphasis on leading in change and development/strategy work. Head-heart-feet is one of several simple tools to use in everyday life as a manager. Let me know if I can be of help in your organization. Education/lecture/ballpark.
Footnote: Credit to the insurance company Trygg-Hansa. I came across the head-heart-feet tool when I worked as a consultant with them in 2016 which was used in their internal training program. I have borrowed the words and modified the tool.
